Family Expo Returns to Boost Prep for School Year

Three events scheduled to delight, inform and get families ready for classes

The Children’s Trust Family Expo is always an opportunity for families and children to learn of the wealth of resources and programs available to them, but this year the focus is squarely on a return to school with three events scheduled to give parents time to get ready for all their back-to-school obligations well ahead of the first day of classes.

Specifically, the Family Expo is a chance for parents to learn about programs and resources they could use as their children return to school like after-school and enrichment programs, nutrition education, injury prevention, programs for children with special needs, pre-K registration information and KidCare outreach.

The three Family Expo events are being held on consecutive Saturdays starting in late July. All events will go from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the events have been spread out throughout the county to reach out to neighborhoods in the central, south and north parts of Miami-Dade County.

The central and first event will be held on July 23 in downtown Miami at the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus, 300 NE 2 Avenue, with the second event taking place on July 30 in the south at Sweet Home Community Campus, 10701 SW 184 Street in Cutler Bay, and the last event in the north happening on August 6 at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex at 3000 NW 199 Street in Miami Gardens.

Every Family Expo event includes Trust providers, partners and community organizations who set up shop with information on programs that feature arts/sports, STEM, health & wellness, special populations, family services and more. There will also be mobile units available providing vaccines, including for COVID-19, to make sure all the shots your child needs for a return to the classroom, as well as mobile units offering dental screenings and care, and injury prevention information.

To make sure children and families enjoy themselves while getting critical information, the events are chock-full of entertainment. This year’s lineup includes juggling stilt-walkers, a mime, unicyclist, arts and crafts activities, bounce houses and more.

Each event also features a stage with musical performances, stage shows, community talent and DJs spinning music throughout the event to keep the energy high and good times rolling.

All the events will be held outdoors, but the public will be kept cool under tents, with free water distributed and cooling stations.

Worried about your children getting hungry during events? All of this year’s Family Expo events will feature food trucks with free meals given to families and children courtesy of the Miami Dolphins.
