The Children's Trust Awarded Tenth Consecutive Certificate of Achievement in Excellence for Financial Reporting

Award reflects The Trust’s commitment to the highest levels of fiscal responsibility

The Children's Trust has once again been recognized as a leader in financial responsibility and accountability, with a remarkable 10-year streak of receiving the Government Finance Officers Association's (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. As a trusted steward of public funds, The Children's Trust’s unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability has been echoed year after year in its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).

"At The Children's Trust, we understand that true financial excellence is more than just a matter of meeting reporting standards - it's about leveraging innovative financial practices to further our mission of serving the needs of children and families throughout Miami-Dade County,” said William Kirtland, Chief Financial Officer at The Trust.

This distinction is especially impressive given the unprecedented circumstances of the last fiscal year and recovery post-pandemic, during which most of the audit was coordinated remotely. The independent auditors who reviewed The Trust's financial report found no significant deficiencies or material weaknesses and had no comments regarding its accuracy or reporting processes.

“Being honored with the GFOA is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our Board of Directors and staff, who strive every day to identify and address the most critical needs in our community,” said Mark A. Trowbridge, Treasurer and Finance Chair of The Trust’s Board of Directors. “We are honored to be recognized for our efforts and remain steadfast in our commitment to providing the highest level of service and accountability to the children and families we serve."

“As an organization entrusted with the welfare of our community's children, we understand the importance of maintaining the trust of our stakeholders and take seriously our responsibility to be good stewards of public funds,” said Trust President and CEO James R. Haj.  “We remain dedicated to ensuring that The Children's Trust continues to be a beacon of transparency, accountability, and excellence in serving the needs of children and families across Miami-Dade County."
