Summer camp and summer activities are critical to keeping our children engaged, safe and learning during the time away from the regular school year. The Children's Trust, its providers and its partners strive to offer a variety of different options for all children and families including free and low-cost offerings geared toward many interests and needs and throughout all parts of the county.
In addition to the Trust-funded summer camps listed in the link above, The Trust also partners with Miami-Dade County Public Schools to offer options as part of Summer 305, an initiative that brings teachers into summer camps to provide academic instruction in reading and mathematics. To learn more about Summer 305 and view its summer camp offerings, visit the Summer 305 website.
Rising juniors and seniors in high school who are interested in gaining real-work experience ahead of graduation, can look toward the Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP), which matches students with internships at companies and organizations in Miami-Dade. The 5-week internship is paid and gives students experience interviewing for jobs, real-life projects of benefit to employers, and insight from professionals. For more information, visit miamiinterns.org.
Registration is also now open for the Miami-Dade Charter School Summer Youth Employment Program! Through this initiative sponsored by Miami-Dade County, CareerSource South Florida and The Children’s Trust, eligible Charter School youth will earn $13.88 an hour for 150 hours, including 20 hours of Work Readiness Skills Training. The Miami Dade Charter School Summer Youth Employment Program helps youth between the ages of 15 and 18 residing in Miami-Dade County develop employment skills by providing them with valuable work experience.
