The Children’s Trust and Partners Give Special Gifts to Community-Based Organizations

Help the Helpers grants reward those who have given so much

Giving is what makes the holidays truly special. But for many community-based organizations (CBO) in Miami-Dade County, giving is more than a seasonal habit. Serving children and families and the community at large is why they exist, and for the past two years, these organizations have given even more to make sure the kids and families they serve, especially those who are in need, have the resources and services necessary to thrive during the pandemic.

They’ve made a real difference in the lives of children and families in Miami-Dade and it's important that they also receive a helping hand. That’s why The Children’s Trust, together with a collaborative of South Florida funders and foundations, has pooled resources to help show our appreciation for those who make these organizations special. Through the “Help the Helpers” grants, these CBOs received unexpected end-of-the-year holiday gifts to provide to their frontline and administrative staff.

The gifts will be in the form of individual rewards, wellness events or other kinds of celebrations and are meant as a thank you to their teams for going above and beyond their responsibilities during these difficult times. A total of $525,000 will be given out and the grants range from $300 to $6,100 per organization, depending upon the number of employees. The grants will be received in full by January. The Trust’s hope is that this gift will be a first step for these organizations to begin or enhance employee wellness plans so that all those who make a difference in the lives of others get the relief and care they also deserve.

“We are proud of the work we have achieved together and honored to be able to give these organizations these well-deserved grants,” said James Haj, president and CEO of The Trust. “We hope that this gift will make a difference for their teams, who spend their lives serving others.”

The Miami Foundation serves as the fiscal agent for the grants and also contributed to the effort. Principal funding was provided by The Children’s Trust and The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation. Other funding partners in this initiative include Allegany Franciscan Ministries, The Coral Gables Community Foundation, Health Foundation of South Florida, The Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation, The Key Biscayne Community Foundation, and United Way of Miami.
