Research

The Children's Trust places a strong emphasis on accountability and documenting the impact of investments, as well as making data-informed planning decisions through access to timely and accurate information and results. By statute, Children's Services Councils are to collect statistical data and conduct research that will inform the needs of children in the county.

The primary goal of the Research and Evaluation Department is:

To achieve this goal, the department coordinates across all programmatic initiatives and performs several primary functions:

INVESTIGATE & INTEGRATE
  • Regularly scan/examine the field within various programmatic service areas of interest to The Children's Trust to identify best practices that are culturally competent and evidence-based

  • Associate identified best practices with The Children's Trust procurement and contracting practices to ensure support of high quality programs that are most likely to have an impact

EDUCATE
  • Provide training and technical assistance to funded organizations, Trust staff and other community stakeholders regarding program development and evaluation, programmatic reporting and outcome measurement, so that service providers are better able to implement, measure and demonstrate program effectiveness

  • Create tools and resources to communicate identified best practices The Trust has chosen to support/promote

EVALUATE
  • Develop data systems and reporting tools that will ensure data quality and integrity

  • Determine the effectiveness of The Children's Trust investments in terms of impact on the lives of children, youth and families, as well as the community and systems in Miami-Dade County

  • Collect, track and analyze data regarding the ongoing needs and status of the well-being of Miami-Dade county's children and families (e.g., needs assessments, surveys, mapping)

DISSEMINATE
  • Tell the story of The Children's Trust's activities, successes and impact within the community

  • Convey results, data and lessons learned to inform community planning regarding the needs of child, youth and families in Miami-Dade County

  • Contribute to knowledge in the field related to various programmatic service areas of interest to The Children's Trust
