Dr. Monique Jiménez-Herrera joined The Children’s Trust board of directors in August 2019. A licensed clinical psychologist, educator, consultant and trainer, Dr. Jiménez-Herrera currently leads the Department of Social Sciences at Miami Dade College and conducts professional development trainings on topics that address cultural and individual diversity.
Dr. Jiménez-Herrera’s work focuses on understanding multiple minority identities and the importance of emotional intelligence in the workplace. Her work around diversity and inclusion has led to the current appointments as the chair of the MDC Wolfson Campus Women’s History Month Committee and member of the Campus Changemaking-IMPACT Committee, and previously as member of the Puerto Rico Psychological Association Taskforce on Lesbians, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues (2007-2010), and co-chair of the Adler University Women’s Issues Group (2015-2018).
In addition, she has been recognized by the National Council of School and Programs of Professional Psychology (NCSPP, 2014) and their Women Issues Committee (WIC) for her contribution to the pursuit and promotion of women’s leadership in Professional Psychology.
Dr. Jiménez-Herrera's professional experience includes 17 years in higher education as faculty and in department administration roles where she has demonstrated effective leadership skills. Her career also includes owning a private practice where she offered bilingual psychological services to children, adolescents and their families. She also has provided consultation services to school systems, community organizations, and legal entities in areas such as program development, implementation and evaluation, GLBTQ issues, multicultural and abroad education, children and adolescent’s socio-emotional issues, among other topics.
Her role with The Children’s Trust continues her long history of service to the community as donating time and expertise to nonprofit organizations. Dr. Jiménez-Herrera also serves as a content expert in TV, radio, print media and internet outlets addressing mental health-related issues. Her work experience is enhanced by her education of a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology, a Master of Science in Psychology with a concentration in School Counseling, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
