Commissioner Barbara Jordan was elected to the District 1 seat of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners in November 2004, and was elected unopposed for a fourth and final term in 2016.
As commissioner for District 1, Jordan represents the cities of Opa-Locka and Miami Gardens, as well as unincorporated communities that include California Club, Ives Estates and Country Club Lakes. In 2005, Commissioner Jordan was appointed to the Children’s Trust Board of Directors and was re-appointed in 2007, 2009 and 2019.
She currently serves as chairwoman of the Infrastructure and Capital Improvements Committee, and as a member of the Tourism and the Ports Committee, Transportation and Finance Committee, Chairwoman’s Policy Council, Community Disparities Subcommittee, and Youth Commission.
She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in psychology from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, and a Master of Science degree in human services from Nova Southeastern University in Davie.
