Format: Structured as a two workshop series that will run twice.

Participants: Up to 30 participants per series, up to 2 participants per organization. An estimated total of 30 to 40 organizations can participate.

Florida KidCare Coalition of Miami-Dade County Meeting

The Florida KidCare Coalition of Miami-Dade County is comprised of more than 30 community members representing state and local agencies, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, healthcare providers, businesses, faith-based organizations and other community-oriented entities. It works collaboratively to conduct more effective outreach for children and enroll more of them in Florida KidCare. Coalition members collaborate to plan programs and projects to educate the community, increase awareness, support local and statewide advocacy efforts for policy change, and improve outreach capabilities. An overarching goal of all the Coalition efforts is to provide advocates with a network for improving and providing a coordinated approach for application assistance and retention support for Florida KidCare to families in Miami-Dade.

An interactive nutrition workshop that teaches the fundamentals of nutrition and healthy eating practices to promote healthy living, based on evidenced-based nutrition guidelines and practices. Providers can expect hands on activities and a food demonstration. Providers will receive resources that will help them to integrate nutrition education into the after-school curriculum, in effort to educate youth and promote a healthy after-school environment.

FLIPANY’s Nutrition Workshop is mandatory for TCT YAS/YEN providers. At least 2 representatives per site are required to attend; however, this workshop is beneficial for all staff. Each attendee will receive an in-service certification of completion. Each workshop holds a maximum of 30 participants. Workshops will typically be canceled if there are less than 5 staff registered. If canceled, staff will receive an e-mail notification at least 24 hours prior to cancellation.

Effective Literacy Instruction, Level 2 Workshop

Organization:
Project RISE

Description:
This workshop is designed to allow participants to practice applying the skills taught in the online prerequisite, including evidence-based strategies to improve reading skills (e.g., scaffolding), instruction techniques, and ways to increase youth engagement. Participants will earn a higher-level certificate and additional training hours in this topic area. Each program site must have designated staff attend each course within the LIT series. Online Effective Literacy Instruction meets the requirement for youth workers who are involved in the direct delivery of reading activities under the supervision of a Certified Teacher. All teachers responsible for literacy must attend the Differentiated Literacy Instruction training to meet the Trust requirement.

Pre-requisite:
Prior to enrolling in this workshop, participants must complete and pass Effective Literacy Instruction online course.

Audience Demographics:
Youth workers who are involved in the direct delivery of reading activities under the supervision of a Certified Teacher.

Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) Training

Title: Literacy Outcome Assessment: Oral Reading Fluency (ORF)

Description: Literacy is critical to academic success and youth programs to identify and support children’s reading abilities. In this workshop, you will learn how to administer and score the ORF literacy assessment to determine reading fluency. The workshop ensures proficiency in ORF assessment administration. If you attended and passed the ORF training within the past 12 months, the ORF Recertification is now offered online to those who are eligible. Please remember to arrive on time. Entrance to Project RISE trainings will not be permitted 15 minutes after scheduled start time.

Prerequisites: 2018-2019 Online Literacy Assessment Training: Comprehension MAZE
