Zafreen Jaffery, Ed.D., joined The Trust in April 2016 as a research and evaluation analyst for the early childhood development initiative. She is passionate about promoting educational equity and social justice for all children.

Through her years of working at the Regional Educational Laboratory Northwest, Dr. Jaffery produced research briefs and evaluation reports, and provided technical assistance to five states in the Pacific Northwest. Her select project work includes conducting evaluation of the following initiatives: Northwest Comprehensive Center, funded by the U.S. Department of Education; a Technical Assistance Academy for school coaches; a pre-college program at the University of Wisconsin, Madison; and a collective impact initiative funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in South Seattle and South King County. Additionally, Dr. Jaffery was a part of the Oregon Leadership Network that developed metrics to determine accountability for alternative schools and revised district policies for 16 Oregon school districts to reduce disproportionate rates of exclusionary discipline practices. Recently, she co-authored an Institute of Education Sciences publication on registering students from non-English language backgrounds.

Originally from Pakistan, she is fluent in five languages and started her career as a high school English Language teacher in 2000. She hopes that her sixteen years of expertise in research, evaluation, teaching and program management in the P-20 spectrum will further the vision of The Trust in promoting equitable outcomes for our children and families.

Dr. Jaffery earned an Ed.D. in educational leadership from Portland State University in 2012.
