Laurie Weiss Nuell
Laurie Weiss Nuell joined The Trust Board in October 2012 bringing a wealth of expertise from the health services field. She served most recently for three years as director of the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and previously over a decade directed the Public Health Trust, which provides oversight for the Jackson Health System. She simultaneously chaired a number of committees managing both strategic planning and agency oversight. From 2001-2007, Ms. Weiss Nuell directed Florida Healthy Kids Corporation, which provides oversight for Florida’s S-Chip insurance program.
Laurie founded and continues to direct the Jay Weiss Center for Social Medicine and Health Equity at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She continues as the regional representative of Partners In Health and to teach as an adjunct professor at the University of Miami’s School of Architecture.
Ms. Weiss Nuell earned a B.A degree from Newcomb College/Tulane University and a Master’s in Social Work from Barry University.
She serves or has served on an array of nonprofit boards including the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, the Children’s Home Society, Southeastern Division, and Best Buddies International.
