Spooky Symphony Returns to The Moss Center with Music, Costumes, and Fun

This October, a week before Halloween, families across Miami-Dade County can once again trade candy and jump-scares for a different kind of treat: live music. The Spooky Symphony, presented by The Children’s Trust, returns Friday, October 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center in Cutler Bay.

Now in its 16th year, the beloved event brings together the Alhambra Orchestra and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony for an evening of fun music, costumes, and family entertainment.

As in past years, Spooky Symphony is more than just a concert - it’s an immersive Halloween experience. Musicians and audience members alike are encouraged to attend in costume, turning the concert hall into a lively parade of superheroes, witches, and ghosts. Adding to the fun, the performance features a multimedia backdrop with video projections behind the orchestra, creating a dazzling visual complement to live music.

This year’s program opens with the heroic sounds of Wonder Woman, conducted by Huifang Chen of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony, followed by the dynamic themes of X-Men, led by Daniel Andai of the Alhambra Orchestra. Together, the ensembles will perform three spooky classics: Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz, the instantly recognizable Addams Family theme, and a medley of scary film favorites titled This Is Halloween. Maestro Andai will then take the stage again to conduct the thunderous theme from Godzilla. The evening culminates with selections from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s haunting Phantom of the Opera, ensuring the concert ends on a thrilling, eerie note.

The Spooky Symphony is also part of the Moss Center’s larger Halloween celebration, running from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Families can explore a haunted house, snap festive photos, and enjoy seasonal treats before and after the concert. Admission to the entire event is free, with tickets available starting October 10 on a first-come, first-served basis at www.mosscenter.org.

Whether you’re a fan of superheroes, spooky classics, or Broadway’s most haunting melodies, Spooky Symphony delivers something for everyone. With its combination of professional and youth musicians, multimedia effects, and community atmosphere, the event has become one of Miami-Dade’s most anticipated family traditions each fall.

So grab your costumes, bring the kids, and get ready for an evening of music and magic in Cutler Bay. The Spooky Symphony is set to make this Halloween unforgettable.
