Just in time for the family vacation and holiday travels - Buckle up for Life! Car Safety Class (1 hour-parents class for parents, grandparents and caregivers). Did you know kids 40-80lbs need a booster seat to ride safely? All children who weigh 40lbs or less require a car seat. Learn about all the details of child car safety and the proper way to mount car seats in your vehicle. When you attend this workshop, you are entitled to purchase a car seat for only $10.00. The “Buckle up for Life” program provided by Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Miami offers trained program coordinators that will check your cars for proper installation of the car seats and help you mount your new car seats into your vehicles. Annual Back-2-School Summer Splash (2:00 PM)
Organization Name: The Carrie Meek Foundation The Carrie Meek Foundation will conduct the first annual back to school event. The event will be called The Carrie Meek Foundation Annual Summer Splash. Summer Splash will be held on The Foundation's 120 Acres of land in Parcel A at Opa-Locka Airport on August 8, 2009. The event will feature Portable Rock Climbing walls, Jumper Systems, bounce houses and small mechanical rides. The event will include a strong health and education component to it as well. Fitness Outcome: PACER (a.k.a. The "Beep" Test) (10:00 AM)
Organization Name: Project RISE Type of events: In this active workshop, participants will learn how to administer and score the Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run (PACER), also known as the "Beep" test. This modified shuttle run is a valid measure of endurance and overall fitness and is being adopted as the fitness outcome for The Children's Trust. A select group of Trust-funded agencies are required to administer this fun, research-based assessment during the 08-09 school year, but all can attend.
