In collaboration with the Urban Institute and Child Trends, The Children's Trust published in June 2008 Putting the Pieces Together for Our Children: A Child Well-Being Report of Community Indicators in Miami-Dade County 2008.

This document compiles and reports trends and comparisons across 37 selected indicator areas within the following domains:

  • Community and Family Characteristics
  • Child Health and Healthcare
  • Child Safety
  • Early Childhood Education and Development
  • Youth Behavior and Development
  • Education and School Engagement

Concise yet in-depth, the report includes information about why each indicator is important, that is, what research tells us about the indicator’s relationship to child development and future success. In this context, the report offers a look at the data trends over time, comparisons with state and national figures, and disparities observed across geography, race/ethnicity and gender.

The Children’s Trust expects this document to heighten awareness, stimulate discussion and support advocacy for policies and practices advancing children’s well-being. It serves as an important resource for data-informed community planning and needs assessment regarding Miami-Dade’s children and their families. Community leaders, policymakers, health and human service providers and administrators, funders, parents and the public can all use this document to focus their activities and leadership efforts on child and family-friendly investments and policy decisions.

Limited numbers of printed copies of this report are available by contacting The Children’s Trust Research and Evaluation Department at 305-571-5700.

Selected indicators in this report populate The Children’s Trust’s interactive community indicators and asset mapping website KidStats and Maps, an online data system providing public access to countywide and sub-county area (ZIP code level) data.
