Recommend a Gubernatorial Appointment For The Children’s Trust
The Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners is accepting recommendations for one (1) member of The Children’s Trust 33-member Board of Directors.
The Governor's appointment shall serve through March, 2010. For each of the gubernatorial appointments, the Board of County Commissioners must solicit recommendations from the public and submit to the Governor the names of at least three (3) persons for each vacancy. Candidates must meet the following criteria: a) they must have resided within Miami-Dade County during the previous twenty-four (24) months; and b) they must be representative of the geographic and demographic diversity of the population of Miami-Dade County, to the extent reasonably possible. The Governor shall make his appointment to The Trust from the candidates recommended by the Board of County Commissioners. Candidates should have the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
• An awareness of the needs of children and families in Miami-Dade County
• The ability to work collaboratively
• A dedication to the mission of improving the lives of children and families
• A record of effective advocacy for children
• A record of service on volunteer and/or public boards
The Children's Trust is a dedicated source of funding created by voter referendum in 2002 to improve the lives of children and families in Miami-Dade County by making strategic investments in their future. The Trust focuses its investments in the areas of health, development and safety and to increasing parental and community responsibility for children.
The board and its committees meet monthly. For each vacancy, the Board of County Commissioners selects three (3) candidates which will then be forwarded to the Governor for his appointment within forty-five (45) days of receipt of the Board’s recommendations or for his request for a new list of candidates.
HOW TO NOMINATE
